Our downtown streets are no stranger to the trolley system — the Raleigh Street Railway Company opened NC’s first trolley system in 1886 — however, over time (as other means of transportation became more popular) we saw less + less of the signature red streetcars.

With the Historic Raleigh Trolley, the City of Raleigh takes us back to the time when trolleys ruled the roads. Although it’s not an original, the Historic Raleigh Trolley is styled after the trolleys from the early 1900s. It is also enclosed, handicapped accessibility + can fit 26 passengers.

Returning to service on Sat., Mar. 13, the City of Raleigh is now offering three different historical tours aboard the historic trolley. The tours are one hour long and offer an inside look at historic downtown Raleigh. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $6 youth (7-17), and are free for children (6 years and under).
