After landing at No. 2 last year and No. 3 in 2023, Raleigh has ranked as the No. 1 city for economic growth according to economic think tank Milken Institute’s 2025 report. Raleigh has ranked in the top 20 for the last 12 years and overtook Austin, Texas for the gold medal.

If you haven’t noticed, Raleigh is booming with new biz, jobs, and residents, including growth in the tech sector and a strong workforce thanks to our excellent nearby colleges + universities, according to Milken. Take a peek at Raleigh’s top industries and employers.

Raleigh also ranked highly across all categories, making Oak City well-rounded for its economic success, but our high-tech growth falls behind some other cities. Guess you can’t win ‘em all.
