Teacher Appreciation Week in Raleigh

This week marks the beginning of Teacher Appreciation Week, and we feel that teachers deserve a little extra appreciation after everything they’ve been doing for our students during the pandemic (Trevor here, shout out to my amazing mother who teaches elementary students in Florida. And to that point, don’t forget Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 10).

Now, we know that it’s not always possible or safe to be with your teachers or deliver gifts to them during the COVID-19 outbreak, but there are many ways you can reach out to share your thanks without being in the same place.

To show your appreciation, families can give gifts to teachers virtually or with CDC social distancing in mind. Here are a few ideas to brainstorm throughout this week:

Take a picture of a handwritten card with the student’s favorite memory of when they were in the classroom and email it to their teacher.

Give a virtual gift card from your favorite local eatery — like A Place at the Table, Sir Walter Coffee, or Lucettegrace — to support small businesses + share your favorites with the student’s fave teacher.

Head over to Logan’s Garden Shop and pick out a pot, plant + soil for their teacher.

Choose gourmet chocolate from Videri and have it delivered or pick it up yourself.

Send a simple thank you video to the student’s teacher — any act of kindness can go a long way.

Governor Roy Cooper stated in his press conference about cancelling in-classroom teaching for the rest of the 2019-2020 school year, “Teachers already go the extra mile for students. Now, they are running a marathon.” We couldn’t agree more. To all of our readers that teach or work in the school system here in NC — we want to extend our gratitude for all that you do + the hours you put in for our youth.
