Duke was the only local team left standing, and after a brutal Blue Devil weekend it’s over for all Tobacco Road basketball teams — but there’s always next year.

NC State

No. 7 NC State women fell 92-63 to No. 2 Michigan in the round of 32 after defeating No. 10 Tennessee 76-61. There’s always next year.

The No. 11 Wolfpack men fell 68-66 in the First Four to No. 11 Texas, cutting their postseason very short — but don’t worry, a new coach is en route for 2026-27.

Duke

The No. 1 Blue Devils lost 73-72 in a shocking buzzer-beater to No. 2 UConn in the Elite Eight. Once the tournament favorites, the Blue Devils will have to set their sights on next season.

No. 1 UCLA bested the No. 3 Duke women 70-58 in the Elite Eight after a second-half comeback.

UNC

The No. 4 women Tar Heels fell to dominant No. 1 UConn 63-42 in the Sweet 16 to end their season.

Next year, Tar Heels. The No. 11 VCU men’s team upset No. 6 UNC in the round of 64 with an 82-78 win — and the biggest comeback in the round of 64 ever. Plus, UNC is expecting a new head coach for the 2026-27 season.
