Summer nights call for delicious summer bites. You guessed it — we’re talking about tapas. Originating in Spain , tapas are small plates, appetizers, or light bites that are sometimes served with an alcoholic beverage.

We’re bringing you six local tapas spots — and shouting out some of our favorite dishes — to add to your weekend or date night agenda.

Barcelona Wine Bar , 430 W. Martin St. | Pair an award-winning wine from Spain or South America with small plates crafted with fresh ingredients. Try this: patatas bravas

Humble Pie , 317 S. Harrington St. | These seasonal plates are intended for sharing (perhaps on the large outdoor patio). Try this: crispy brussels + buttermilk fried chicken

Las Ramblas , 141 Park at North Hills St. | This new spot led by chef Brian Jenzer serves traditional tapas like pan con tomate and croquettes. It also feature more innovative small dishes like stuffed piquillos with lady goat cheese and pesto.

Vinos Finos , 8450 Honeycutt Rd. | This tapas and wine bar specializes in South American wine. | Try this: “Blind Dates” + empanadas

Madre , 516 N. West St. | Located in the middle of Smoky Hollow, this new restaurant serves small plates, wine, cocktails, and weekend brunch.

Mateo , 109 W. Chapel Hill St., Durham | These Spanish-inspired tapas are intertwined with flavors of the South. Try this: NC striped bass
