Reminder: The first day of winter is Saturday, Dec. 21.
Temperature
Think cold, but not too cold. This winter, Raleigh has a 50-60% chanceof temperatures being higher than normal.
December
Temperatures in December usually fall around 52.7° and don’t typically exceed 59.7° or drop below 38.3°. With a possibility of a drier winter, December may not see as much sleet or snow as you prep for the holidays. Since December has the shortest days of the year, make the most of your daylight hours by finding your home away from homethat doesn’t involve work.

East End Market is expanding with new tenants including Ferguson Kitchen & Bath Showroom and Mindzero, a cold plunge and sauna center. Community hub Giorgios Epicurean Market also plans to expand its restaurant + market with a sushi bar in 2025.
Travel
Air Canada will offer three nonstop flights through Raleigh-Durham International Airport per week with the addition of Vancouver as a destination. The new flight service begins June 5, 2025 and marks the 12th international flight offered at RDU.
Art
Dix Park is debuting its new large-scale art installation, “Get Well Soon” by Raleigh-based artist Lamar Whidbee on the Spruill Building, a former mental health facility. The park is celebrating with an opening event today from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. featuring Whidbee and additional licensed mental health specialists.
Pet
The Wake County Animal Center is launching its 24 Tails of Holiday Cheer campaign, featuring pet adoption stories on social media now until Tuesday, Dec. 24. The initiative is encourage adoption + a second chance for pets at the shelter this holiday season.
