While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what winter will bring.

Temperature
Think cold, but not too cold. This winter, Raleigh has a 50-60% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.
Precipitation
Expect slightly less precipitation. Raleigh has a 33-40% chance of seeing below average snow and rainfall amounts this winter.
Drought
Drought conditions are expected to develop this season.
December
Temperatures in December usually fall around 52.7° and don’t typically exceed 59.7° or drop below 38.3°. With a possibility of a drier winter, December may not see as much sleet or snow as you prep for the holidays. Since December has the shortest days of the year, make the most of your daylight hours by finding your home away from home that doesn’t involve work.
January
In January, Raleighites can expect an average high of 48° with a low of 32.9°. January is our coldest month of the year — but at least we can hold out hope for snow this month.
February
Temps in this month fall around 44.6° and typically stay in the range of 53.1° to 36.1°. As the weather wanes a tad warmer, plan ahead with some indoor activities to spring into the next season.
