Southwest fliers should get their ginger ale while they can. This week the airline began to end its cabin service earlier — at an altitude of 18,000 ft — to reduce injuries. It’s all good — there are plenty of food and drink options at RDU before you board. (Fast Company)

We know the question on your mind, Raleighites — is it going to snow this year? Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in Raleigh for December, January, and February.

While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what winter will bring.

Reminder: The first day of winter is Saturday, Dec. 21.

December

Temperatures in December usually fall around 52.7° and don’t typically exceed 59.7° or drop below 38.3°. With a possibility of a drier winter, December may not see as much sleet or snow as you prep for the holidays. Since December has the shortest days of the year, make the most of your daylight hours by finding your home away from home that doesn’t involve work.
