Hit the Road: Escape for a weekend at Fearrington Village
Fearrington Village has an award-winning inn, a spa, restaurants, beautiful gardens, an independent bookstore, boutiques, and more. | Photo by Krystal Kast provided by Fearrington Village
City Editor Cat here. Allie and I recently traveled ~40 minutes down the road to spend the day in Fearrington Village and what a treat it was. From sipping afternoon tea and shopping to seeing cows + goats, this English-inspired village between Pittsboro and Chapel Hill provides the perfect weekend escape.
Where to eat
The Fearrington House Restaurant | Besides a delightful afternoon tea, this fine-dining restaurant offers a seasonal menu with cuisine enhanced with herbs from the garden. Items that can’t be grown on the property are sourced locally from Duckwood Farms and Heritage Farms.
Bonus: My cousin and her husband recently celebrated their 10th anniversary here.
Afternoon tea is available from 12 to 3 p.m., Thursday through Sunday.

The Belted Goat | If you’re looking for something a bit more casual, this breakfast and lunch spot fits the bill. Enjoy house-made pastries or a garden-fresh sandwich on the patio. Plus, stock up on wine + snacks at the elevated market place filled with pantry staples and treats.
Roost Beer Garden | Open during the warmer months, guests can order a wood-fired pizza + beer to listen to live music.
Take it from us — we could spend hours browsing this independent bookstore.

For Valentine’s Day 2024, we made a map of local places where our readers have made memories. We asked for your help compiling everything from proposals to making friends. You did not disappoint.
You can explore these local love stories by clicking on the hearts — and here are just a few that we had to share:
“My now-fiancé and I got engaged at Moore Square! He surprised me with a barber shop quartet that serenaded us before he got down on one knee.” — Anonymous reader
“My best friend, Colleen, set me and her coworker, David, up on a blind date. We decided to meet at Boxcar in downtown Raleigh on July 27, 2017 and the rest is history. We will be married for four years in December 2024. It really was the best place for a blind date and I couldn’t be more grateful that we had it.” — Anonymous reader
“It all began with a swipe right and a drink at the bar (The Anchor Bar). A year later he dropped on one knee at NCMA. Four years have gone by and we are happily married and still living in Raleigh with our two precious golden retrievers.” — Alex R.
Pitmaster Jerry Stephenson from The BBQ Lab and RBL Catering & Food Truck hosted an exclusive Valentine’s-themed dinner at one of the Triangle’s newest venues, Contemporary House in Garner. My fiancé and I feasted on the six-course experience showcasing new catering options for weddings + other special events and were blown away.
Stephenson and his team proved that not only can they produce world championship winning ‘cue, but can whip up elevated fare for your big day, too.
