A Juneteenth celebration in Durham, NC

Mark your calendars for Durmnik — A Juneteenth Celebration with Saltbox Seafood Joint & Friends on Saturday, June 17.

The community celebration will take place at Saltbox Seafood Joint (2637 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd., Durham) from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., featuring a picnic box curated by Chef Ricky Moore, Chez Moi Bakery, Mike D’s BBQ, Nzingas Kitchen, and Ideal Bartending Co.

Wondering how the name connects to the event? “Durmnik” is the combination of Durham and picnic. The event will feature a festive box of cookout-style dishes — we’re eyeing the Baked Mac & “Crazy Pull” Cheese from Nzinga’s Kitchen — and a mocktail for each person who purchases a ticket .

The idea behind the event is to honor Juneteenth with the greater Durham community while enjoying delicious grub.
