Good morning, Raleigh. Erin here, and I have a confession to make — I am a notoriously bad plant mom. 🌱It’s not that I’m neglectful (in fact, I’m very attentive), but the nuances of which plant needs more water (or less) + navigating the differences between partial sun and partial shade have eluded me. Until I discovered Raleigh Plant People.

Update: it survived. | Photo by Erin McPherson

Whether you’re a budding hobbyist or a rooted professional, this Facebook group offers a community for local green thumbs of all shapes and sizes.

Did you know pumpkin tree plants are part of the eggplant family? Or do you need local tips on where to find sorghum moss? What about recommendations for creating your own in-home greenhouse or — most helpful to mehow to salvage an unhappy plant?

Raleigh Plant People is the safe space I never knew I needed to ask all my questions (nay, pleas for help) without judgement. Members are diverse, knowledgeable, and happy to share their insights, or simply chat about plants.

And if you’re in the market for a new plant baby, look no further. The group often benefits from opportunities to buy, sell, or trade existing succulents, philodendrons, snake plants + even trees and shrubs. Sounds mint to be, right?
