🎄 Sip like Santa at Wye Hill
Consider Wye Hill’s halls decked for the holiday season. | Photos by RALtoday
Love the holidays but hate the winter?Sippin’ Santa at Wye Hill has you covered with tropical drinks and potentially the most festive, toasty patio in town to kick off the holiday season. Think: thousands of Christmas lights, tons of tinsel, and palm trees galore.
The drinks took us straight to the beach with bevs like the Jingle Bird with bourbon + pineapple rum, a Sugar Plum Mai Tai, the Frost Bite with tequila, sage, and cranberry bitters, and the two-person Nui Nui New Year which reminded us of a winter margarita. Plus, they’re all served in precious holiday glasses you can purchase for your own holiday fun.
All your Wye Hill favorites are still on the menu, and we had to snag the everything Brussels and dill pickle pimento cheese for the table. Psst... There are plenty more holiday pop-up bars in Raleigh this season — stay tuned for more festive fun.

Open
Jubala’s fourth location — and first downtown — is now open. If almond lattes and biscuit sandwiches aren’t enough, this location will also moonlight as Bar Marigold with top-notch espresso martinis + more.
Mansion Monday
This modern North Raleigh home was designed with precision. With gorgeous wood beam ceilings, a heated pool, and a second-level sky gallery, this one’s going on our wish list.
Closing
Missy Lane’s Assembly Room in Durham is shutting its doors for good after two years of jazz + craft cocktails. The jazz spot’s mission isn’t going away — the Missy Lane’s Charitable Foundation will continue providing jazz education and hosting the Missy Lane’s Block Party.
The Word
Frisson. It means the strong feeling of excitement and chills you get when you hear music or see art. Let’s use it in a sentence — I’m going to get a frisson when I see Andrea Bocelli at the Lenovo Center on Friday, Feb. 20.

“Hey, I just saw a Roseate Spoonbill.” If your partner perked up, congrats — they’ve passed the bird theory test. The trend supposedly tests how tuned-in your sweetheart really is. Bonus: Who doesn’t love local bird talk?
Seasonal
Taco Bell is selling a Baja Blast-flavored pie this Thanksgiving. The drink’s signature tropical lime flavor has been turned into a filling on a graham cracker crust, topped with whipped cream. To each their own, but we prefer picking up seasonal desserts from Raleigh’s small businesses. (People)
Announced
There will be a new Album of the Year winner at next year’s Grammy Awards, with none of the nominees having won the prestigious accolade before. Want to pick your own favorite? We recommend singing along during a beautiful fall walk.

Happy Monday, Raleigh. If you know me, you know I love a good ham, egg, and cheese biscuit from Jubala, and an espresso martini, so I’ll be frequenting the new downtown location. Remember when you named Jubala the best local coffee shop a few years back? Sounds like I’ll see you there, too.
