A new look is coming to Raleigh’s Depot Historic District, and it’ll connect Glenwood South, the Warehouse District, and the West End. The developer, LODEN Properties, has spearheaded other revitalizations around the city like Longleaf Hotel + Gateway Plaza, and its next project is South Hills Mall in Cary.
Featuring a 170-key boutique hotel and over 30,000 sqft of street-level retail, this project is set to transform The Depot, currently home to Black & White Coffee, Videri Chocolate, and Tasty Beverage Co., but will preserve the historic 1912 building. Expect outdoor spaces, public plazas, and pedestrian-friendly connections to the Raleigh Convention Center and Red Hat Amphitheater.
The Depot itself, which was built in 1912 to serve Southern Railway, will be preserved and celebrated.

“There’s real energy in this part of the city,” said Henry Ward, a partner at LODEN Properties. “We see The Depot as a key connector in downtown Raleigh that links people, ideas, and neighborhoods together.”
The project is set to be finished in 2028, and construction could start in 18 months.

Anyone lose a peacock? Wake County Animal Center collected a peacock from North Raleigh last week, and while the exotic bird is being taken in by a volunteer, The News & Observer has wrangled up animal rescue stories from the past, including emus and a zebra cobra.
We’ve got a scandal on our hands — Krispy Kreme’s North Carolina origins are under question after a YouTube video revealed founder Vernon Rudolph’s uncle owned a donut shop in Kentucky called — you guessed it — Krispy Kreme. NC-born or not, we’re still stopping when the Hot and Ready sign is lit on Peace Street. (The News & Observer)

Before seeing the musical “Some Like It Hot” at DPAC this week, which was so much fun, my friend and I stopped by Honeygirl Meadery at American Tobacco Campus. We split a flight, and my absolute favorite was a cherry cacao mead — this is a great spot before a show or Bulls game.
I love this stained glass TV cabinet and the NC photography at Honeygirl Meadery.
