It was a double dream season for NC State last year. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams made it to the Final Four, sparking Wolfpack pride across Raleigh. Both teams are riding the highs and expectations set from last season — here’s how they’re looking + what to know about each team.
Women’s basketball
Ahead of the season’s start, the women’s Wolfpack ranked at No. 9 on the AP poll, the second-highest ACC school behind Notre Dame. Stars of last year’s squad like Saniya Rivers, Aziaha James, and Madison Hayes have returned, and we’re excited to see promising transfers like Lizzy Williamson and freshmen Lorena Awou + Tilda Trygger hit the court.
There’s still time to grab tickets for the 2024 Ally Tipoff in Charlotte on Sunday, Nov. 10 where the Pack will play the undefeated 2023-24 champions, South Carolina. And of course, we can’t wait to see the team against conference rivals like Duke + UNC later this season, too.

The wait is over. The new Trader Joe’s store on Creedmoor Road will open next Friday, Nov. 15 near Margaux’s and Brigs. The new location is 10,000 sqft and will carry all the chain’s regular products. This marks Raleigh’s second Trader Joe’s, with the first located on Wake Forest Road, and the fifth in the Triangle. Opening
Here’s another bite of foodie news. New downtown sports bar + community spot The Brass Tap is set to open at 400H in on Monday, Nov. 11. In addition to being a prime game day spot, expect 45 taps, a variety of food offerings, live music, and more all on North West Street near Press.

Raleigh Iron Works’ Little Rey will open Monday, Dec. 9. Headed by chef Ford Fry, the fast casual Northern Mexican concept will focus on food cooked al carbon (wood roasted), including street + breakfast tacos, fan-fave pancakes with buttermilk syrup, Mexican beers, margaritas, and agua frescas.
Development
Cary voters said no to a parks and recreation bond, and the future of the town’s Sports & Recreation Community Center is unclear. The center would be part of the South Hills Mall redevelopment and would cost $300 million, and the bond would have approved $560 million for a variety of town parks projects. (Axios Raleigh)

🍂 Life leaf hacks

The City of Raleigh’s seasonal loose leaf collection begins for some residents on Tuesday, Nov. 12, and you better be-leaf we have some tips to make the process smooth + rid your yard of unwanted leaves.
No more than two weeks before your assigned pickup date, make like a tree and leaf your piles in the area between the curb and sidewalk for pickup. Make sure your car, holiday decor, and other possible obstacles are away from the pile, and save the trash, branches, and pet waste for their appropriate bins.
If you don’t want to wait for your assigned pickup, the city suggests alternate leaf disposal tips, such as mulching the leaves with your lawn mower, backyard composting, or using the city’s biweekly curbside yard waste collection service.

Remember that mini art vending machine I told you about earlier this week? I took a long walk to Platform in the West End on Wednesday (with a pit stop at Boulted Bread for a treat and quarters) and came home with this little Goldfish print, which now smiles back while I write this newsletter. I’m hearing there’s another vending machine from the same artist with different prints at the North Hills Innovation District.
This print was designed by Anastasia Inciardi.
