Meet the 2024-25 Wolfpack men’s and women’s basketball squads

College basketball is back, and NC State’s men’s and women’s teams are still riding the high of their Final Four performances last year. Here’s what you need to know in the early days of the 2024-25 season.

It was a double dream season for NC State last year. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams made it to the Final Four, sparking Wolfpack pride across Raleigh. Both teams are riding the highs and expectations set from last season — here’s how they’re looking + what to know about each team.

Women’s basketball

Ahead of the season’s start, the women’s Wolfpack ranked at No. 9 on the AP poll, the second-highest ACC school behind Notre Dame. Stars of last year’s squad like Saniya Rivers, Aziaha James, and Madison Hayes have returned, and we’re excited to see promising transfers like Lizzy Williamson and freshmen Lorena Awou + Tilda Trygger hit the court.

There’s still time to grab tickets for the 2024 Ally Tipoff in Charlotte on Sunday, Nov. 10 where the Pack will play the undefeated 2023-24 champions, South Carolina. And of course, we can’t wait to see the team against conference rivals like Duke + UNC later this season, too.

Men’s basketball

After a 2023-24 postseason nothing short of miraculous, the men’s Wolfpack is looking to recreate some of last season’s magic without stars like DJ Burns and DJ Horne. Returning to the team are Ben Middlebrooks and Michael O’Connell, among others, and we can’t wait to see what players like transfers Marcus Hill and Brandon Huntley-Hatfield can do for the Pack. Plus, keep your eye on four-star recruits Paul McNeil and Bryce Heard as they try to shine in their first year of college ball.

The Pack has an exciting slate of games on its schedule this year: a rematch against Purdue, a game at Kansas, and of course, a pair of games against the Tar Heels. Go Pack!
