“Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives"-featured restaurant Dae Gee Korean Barbecue is expanding from Denver to NC, with the first stop being Wilson, and plans to expand into Raleigh in 2025. The Korean barbecue spot will feature popular dishes like bulgogi + Korean fried chicken. (The News & Observer)

Raleigh’s latest high-rise is nearly complete and set to open in February 2025. The building, called Maeve, will feature 297 apartments, an eight-level parking deck, and more than 10,000 sqft in retail space. Leasing for the retail is currently underway while residential leasing will likely begin at the end of 2024. (Triangle Business Journal)

The Wake County school board selected Shaw University as the new partner for the county’s early college leadership academies starting in the 2025-26 school year. In the meantime, students will take courses through Wake Tech Community College for the 2024-25 academic year and begin classes Wednesday, Aug. 7. (The News & Observer)

Crunkleton, a Chapel Hill-originated cocktail bar, will open a Raleigh location at Smoky Hollow this December. The bar specializes in artsy cocktails and has a rustic atmosphere. We can’t wait for another Smoky Hollow hangout. (Axios Raleigh)
History
History for all. Tour the Mordecai Historic Park at no cost on Friday, Aug. 23, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tours will occur in 30-minute increments and are available on a first come, first served basis.

The CROWN Act has been approved by the Wake County school board in an effort to end discrimination of natural hair styles in public schools. The implementation of the bill provides protections for students wearing styles including braids, bantu knots, and more. (WRAL)

The Raleigh-Wake Emergency Communications Center is hiring call takers and telecommunicators. Duties for both positions include answering incoming emergency, non-emergency, and administrative calls.
Plus, starting Sept. 21, call takers’ annual salary will start at $42,027, and telecommunicators’ will be $45,245.
The 12 to 14-week-long academy will begin on Thursday, Sept. 19.
What to know
Trainees will receive a salary while in the training academy.
Virtual information sessions will occur on Monday, July 29, Wednesday, July 31, and Saturday, Aug. 3.
