Raleighites— is it just us or is the summer heat on your mind too?
Through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expectin our city for the remainder of June, July, and August.
Although precise weather conditions cannot be predicted more than a week in advance, we can get close predictions. Here’s a seasonal overview to help you prepare for what summer has up its sleeve.
By the way, the first day of summer is Thursday, June 20.

Climate Prediction Center
Temperature
Coming in hot. This summer, Raleigh has a 40-50% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.
Precipitation
Expect slightly more precipitation. Raleigh has a 40-50% chance of leaning higher than average rainfall amounts this summer.
June
Temperatures typically fluctuate between an average low of 65° and an average high of 86° in June, but expect to see more of those near-90° days this year.
Pro tip: June and July have an average daily maximum UV index of 7 (the highest of the year), so don’t slack on the sunscreen when you’re exploring one of Raleigh’s beautiful parks or hiking trails.
July
In July, the average high and low temps are between 69° and 89° — with a greater change of high temps this year. Read: Temperatures could reach triple digits.

August
Historically, average highs in August don’t change much from July, with an average low of 68° and average high of 87°. Temperatures likely won’t significantly cool until October, so keep this list of local watering holes handy.

Saturday walk-ins will resume at two Raleigh DMV offices, among another 14 throughout NC, from today until August 24. The DMV locations will be located in north and west Raleigh, allowing residents to get a jump on obtaining photo IDs to vote, real IDs to fly domestically + more . (Axios Raleigh)

Residents will be able to take behind the scenes tours of the Sonoco Recycling Facility on June 17 and July 11 at 10 a.m. Tours will include a close-up view of how materials are processed and a learning experience about proper recycling. Register in advance by contacting Chelsea Arey.

Great news for techies, Raleigh residents, and curbside collection customers. The City of Raleigh recently launched a new + free resource — the Raleigh Reuse app and webtool , available on Apple and Google app stores and on desktop.
The app provides residents a quick way to:
View current schedules and receive collection day alerts, including holiday updates.
Print the schedule for your exact address.
Use the Waste Wizard directory to search 300+ materials to determine if and how items can be recycled, donated, disposed of, composted, or reused.
Locate nearby drop-off sites for donation items and hazardous waste.
