DYK James Cameron — the director of “Titanic,” “Avatar,” and “The Terminator” — went on a deep-sea dive to the bottom of the ocean? 🐟
An immersive new exhibition, “James Cameron: Challenging the Deep ,” is now on display at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, so you can deep dive his adventure, too.
The exhibition traces Cameron’s passion for deep-ocean science and technology, along with his record-breaking dive in the Deepsea Challenger, a sub he co-designed and co-engineered.
During the exhibition, Raleighites can:
- Experience a deep-ocean environment with cinema-scale projections
- See artifacts and specimens from Cameron’s journey
- Discover the shipwrecks of the Titanic and the Bismarck
- Learn about the technology behind underwater recording, lighting, and communication
- See film and costume props from “The Abyss” and “Titanic”
The exhibition is on display through May 2023. Tickets ($16 for adults; $14 for students and seniors; $12 for kids 3-12) are available online, and for museum members, admission is free.
