Red Hat Amphitheater spruced up this downtown intersection in 2010.

Red Hat Amphitheater opened in 2010 as a temporary venue, and after 15 years, it’ll move just down the road for a convention center expansion. But before all that, it was just a humble warehouse downtown.

Before it became a critically acclaimed local restaurant, Crawford and Son’s space was home to an Italian market.

Person Street near Historic Oakwood has changed plenty — for instance, chef Scott Crawford took over two storefronts to establish Crawford and Son and Jolie, both named in honor of his kids. Talk about growing up.

Raleigh’s seen plenty of new developments over the years — but some things never change, like the iconic A-frame IHOP on Hillsborough Street. The building sat vacant for a few years, and locals were worried it would be torn down for good, but Alpaca Peruvian Chicken bought the building and kept the iconic structure. Plus, there’s a wall covered in historic photos of the IHOP.
