Meet RALtoday’s City Editors

After City Editor Allie’s first month at RALtoday, we wanted to say hey and get readers reintroduced to the team behind our newsletters and social media.

Hey folks — City Editors Allie and Cat here. We have the pleasure of providing Raleigh with hyper-local news daily through our newsletter and social media, and we wanted to reintroduce ourselves because we have a new face in town.

Q: In 50 words or less, describe your perfect Raleigh day.

A: First, I’d get brunch with friends at Jubala Coffee — complete with a biscuit sandwich and an espresso tonic — and spend the afternoon at the State Farmers Market. Later, I’d catch a flick at a local independent theater and finish my day with a long dinner date at the Stanbury.

Q: How did you end up in Raleigh?

A: My family and I moved to Raleigh from Dayton, OH, in 2016 and have loved it ever since. I got to explore Raleigh even more as an NC State student and member of the student newspaper, Technician.

Q: What are the last three things you did downtown?

A: First, I went to a concert at Red Hat Ampitheater and was impressed by the view from lawn seats; second, I went to Copperline Plant Co. and somehow resisted buying their gorgeous plants; third, I visited City Club Raleigh for an incredible mobile kitchen experience with City Editor Cat — more on that soon.

Q: In 50 words or less, describe your perfect Raleigh day.

A: My perfect day would start with a walk in Fred Fletcher Park with my dog Tucker and fiancé Nick, Iris Coffee Lab latte in hand. Then, we would scooter around town to spots like Edge of Urge and Father & Son Antiques. For dinner, we would most likely end up at MoJoe’s Burger Joint.

Q: How did you end up in Raleigh?

A: I’m from Chesapeake, VA and was recruited to run track and cross country at UNC Pembroke. I moved to Raleigh after graduating in 2017. My aunt, uncle, and cousin and her family all live in the City of Oaks, so it was an easy transition. My grandparents moved here not long after I did, so we have “family nights” often.

Q: What are the last three things you did downtown?

A: First, I went to Jolie to enjoy their Drink Up special, a French 75 made with Durham Distillery’s Conniption Kinship Gin, served through the champagne window; second, I spent an afternoon working from Sir Walter Raleigh; and finally, I scootered to Dix Park to spend the afternoon in the Big Field for the Fourth of July fireworks. Before the show, I snacked on Hot Chix twisted chicken tots (my favorite).
