Raleigh is home to hundreds of parks , an ever-developing Capital Area Greenway System + so many opportunities for you to bike around your neighborhood or city safely. If you’re looking for ways to exercise without a fully-functioning gym during the coronavirus pandemic, the BikeRaleigh app created by the City of Raleigh is the perfect place to start.

Note: It’s really hot out there, Raleigh. Make sure you’re aware of the signs of heat illness before hitting the trails.

Whether you’re an avid biker or you’re just taking off your training wheels, this app is designed to make bicycling safer, more comfortable, and convenient for people of all ages and abilities.

The app — available to view on the web or download on your phone via Apple or the Google Play store — provides 10 categories ranging from how and where to safely rent a bike with the Raleigh Bikeshare Program to showing how to access the 28 trails in the greenway system. DYK: The trails offer 100+ miles of existing greenway trails with plans to double that mileage over the next 30 years.

If you’re out exploring and have any concerns about maintenance on the greenway system related to roots, faded bike lanes, potholes, etc., you can easily share them with the City by emailing parkplan@raleighnc.gov or using the Citizen Service Request (SeeClickFix ) system on their website.

While we are on the topic of apps, the RGreenway app is another great Raleigh resource, offering an interactive map of greenway trails with additional features such as weather reports and the ability to track time and distance travelled on the Raleigh greenway.
