Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
is coming to Raleigh to improve the speed, frequency, and reliability of public transportation in the City of Oaks and surrounding areas. Approximately 20 miles of dedicated bus lanes will be built along four key corridors in Wake County, including:
- New Bern Avenue (connecting downtown Raleigh with WakeMed and New Hope Road)
- Western Corridor (connecting Raleigh and Cary)
- Southern Corridor (connecting Raleigh and Garner)
- Northern Corridor (connecting downtown Raleigh to Crabtree Boulevard)
The New Bern corridor will be the first BRT developed and is expected to be completed in winter 2025. Full service of all stations is expected to be available by 2030.
The BRT system will have large, custom buses and traffic signal priority. Read: The buses can coordinate with traffic signals to receive longer green lights. Passengers can expect less frequent stops and to pay fares at stations, instead of on buses.
