In 2023, 280,000 seeds of the Hunters Select Peredovik variety were planted at Dix Park’s five-acre field. Yesterday, the Sunflower Field was reported as being about 10% in bloom.

This City of Raleigh partnership between Raleigh Water, Raleigh Parks, and the Office of Sustainability offers locals a golden field to romp in and serves as a pollinator habitat for bees, butterflies, and other wildlife.

Peak bloom should be here really soon and last around two weeks. The Sunflower Field is located off of Hunt Drive in Dix Park.

On select dates during peak bloom — Friday, July 14 + Friday, July 21 from 5 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, July 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Saturday, July 22 from 5 to 9 p.m. — the park will have food trucks available and hammocks adjacent to the field for lounging. Plus, on Saturday evenings (5-8 p.m.), acoustic music by local musicians and beer from Trophy Brewing will be available.
