The wait is finally over. The popular Tex-Mex chain Torchy’s Tacos is now open in Midtown East. The Austin-based fast-casual restaurant is serving up tacos, margaritas, and queso in its first-ever NC location. It currently has 89 stores in 10 states. The Midtown East location will also feature a full bar and outdoor patio — perfect for sipping margaritas on a beautiful spring day.

The RALtoday team obviously had to check it out for themselves to understand what the hype was about, and we were not disappointed. Let’s taco ‘bout it.

What we tried: We tried the trailer park taco, green chile pork taco (missionary-style), lil’ nookies, street corn, mexican rice, chips and hillbilly queso + house margaritas.

Editor Carly is still thinking about: Torchy’s 6 different hot sauces — the Roja, Tomatillo, Poblano, Chipotle, Avocado + Diablo. You’ll want to try them all.

Editor Laura’s what’s not to miss: The street corn is a must and you can get your margs with a salt, sugar or chile rim + frozen or on the rocks.

The restaurant is located at 1110 Mercantile Dr. (across from CAVA). Current hours are:

  • Mon.–Thurs., 10 a.m.–10 p.m.
  • Fri., 10 a.m.–11 p.m.
  • Sat., 9 a.m.-–11 p.m.
  • Sun., 9 a.m.–10 p.m.
