The redevelopment of the Country Club Homes on Oberlin Rd. has been a topic of discussion for quite some time. Raleigh City Council approved rezoning plans for the senior-living portion of the development last year — more than a decade after Grubb Ventures, Williams Realty & Building Company, and Clancy & Theys Construction Company bought the ~20-acre property for $24 million in 2006.

On Tues., Apr. 6, the city approved the rezoning of 4 more acres — making way for the development of a 4-story apartment building . While much of the plan is left to be finalized, Budleigh East is slated to feature 23 single-family homes, 73 townhomes and condominiums + 14 cottages.

The original Country Club Homes site at 2600 Oberlin Rd. (near Oberlin Magnet Middle School) was built in the 1940s. The developers believe that Budleigh East will be a large improvement to the property’s current conditions, as the community’s current sewage + water systems are aging. As for the community’s current residents — they are being offered moving grants and refunds on deposits and broken lease fees .

Construction on Budleigh East is slated to begin later this year , with estimated completion date by Summer 2023.
