Earlier this month we brought you the details on several nationally-known chefs that are bringing their star power to Raleigh (👉 here, ICYMI). Yesterday, Katsuji Tanabe opened his restaurant, High Horse, at 208 Wolfe Street in the historic City Market downtown. The menu — inspired by influences across the chef’s life and career — will feature dishes finished on two wood-fired grills that are visible to the dining room. We can’t wait to dig in.

Katsuji relocated his family to Raleigh this fall, after spending time in the Southeast while filming in Charleston, S.C. during season 14 of the Bravo series Top Chef. “I wanted to find a home in the South where I can provide the best possible life for my family and do what I love in a place that really cares about their food culture,” he said in a press statement last month. He also has restaurants in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, and New York + in 2017 wrote a cookbook called Mexikosher: More than 100 Original Mexican-Inspired Kosher Recipes from a Top Chef.

The restaurant’s name references the City Market’s old stables + also invites diners to leave their pretention at the door and enjoy Katsuji’s fun cooking style. Here’s what else you need to know.
