Hey, Raleigh — City Editor Allie here. The 2026 Olympic Games have got me itching for a slice of Italy without the airfare cost. With the help of some local businesses, you can make the City of Oaks feel like the Il Bel Paese for just one day, no Duolingo needed.

Morning

Grab an espresso + croissant from a local bakery. We’re partial to Boulted Bread, Lucettegrace, or La Farm for that European bakery feel.

Afternoon

Raleigh’s experiencing its own Italian renaissance, which means there’s plenty of new pasta places to try for lunch. We recommend Leo’s Italian Social in North Hills, Figulina in the Warehouse District, or Veloce Italian Market in City Plaza.

Once your belly is full, stroll through the NC Museum of Art’s collection of Italian art, including a piece by landmark artist Titian.
What's for dinner?

Tomorrow, Feb. 17, is Mardi Gras, the annual pre-Lent celebration set to take over streets across the world. If you aren’t joining the 1.4 million expected visitors at the country’s biggest celebration in New Orleans, you can get a taste of the fun with some Cajun + Creole cuisine at The Big Easy.

The Wrap

From Allie

Hi Raleigh — hope you had a great weekend. Over the weekend, I went to Charlotte for an IKEA visit, and if I didn’t end up buying so much, taking the train would have been my first option.
