From extinguished hopes to a chance at the playoffs, UNC, Duke, and NC State have had very different football seasons. Keep reading to see where your favorite Tobacco Road team will end up this season, and what’s next for each squad.

If you ask a Wolfpack fan for their season highlights, it’d be the win over then-No. 8 Georgia Tech and beating UNC for the fifth year in a row. With a 7-5 record, the Pack is going bowling, too — stay tuned this weekend to see which bowl + opponent NC State will face.

Plus, Dave Doeren will return for his 14th season with the Wolfpack in 2026. Even better? The Pack will face off against Virginia in the first-ever college football game played in South America at Nilton Santos Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Aug. 29, 2026.
Next up: UNC + Duke

  • Artsplosure | Support art and culture by assisting with pre-festival or event day prep at events like Artsplosure + WRAL First Night.
  • NCMA | Instill the love + appreciation of art in others by becoming a park guide or by leading workshops at this art museum with 168 acres of park and open spaces.

If you live and breathe Raleigh

  • A Place at the Table | Clock in and join the weekly volunteer schedule at Raleigh’s first pay-what-you-can cafe.
  • Family Promise | Help families experiencing temporary homelessness achieve safe, affordable housing by assisting with maintenance projects and providing emergency shelter as a host.

The Wrap

I heard from so many of you about local lobster rolls after Mason’s in North Hills closed. Deborah P. reminded me there’s still a Mason’s at Wavery Place in Cary, and Michele and Kathryn reminded me of Cousins Maine Lobster food truck that makes its way through the 919.
