🎂 It’s our birthday

Bring out the cake because it’s our birthday. This week marks six years of RALtoday, and we’re celebrating by sharing some of our favorite moments since our founding in 2019. Here’s a look back on some special articles chosen by editors past and present.

Hey foodies — did you know the muscadine is NC’s only indigenous grape? We learned all about scuppernongs, grape hull pies, and NC’s unique agricultural landscape back in September 2020. Still hungry? Learn about Tamasha Modern Indian’s tasty roots with Michelin-recognized chef Bhavin Chhatwani, or harvest something new at Raleigh City Farm, still cultivating community and connection.

We’ve also sat down with some seriously cool people shaping Raleigh, including Sarah Bock from “Severance,” Edge of Urge owner Jessie Williams, and the vintage experts behind secondhand store Pallbearer.

Psst... Thanks for welcoming us into your inbox every day — we couldn’t do it without you.

Lace up your hiking boots, because we’ve compiled a hiking guide for the Raleigh area with 22 routes and trails to help you plan your next adventure and experience breathtaking views.

North Carolina Museum of Art Park
This pleasant stroll is on a mostly paved walkway. There are great views of the Museum Park’s art, like the hidden Cloud Chamber for the Trees and Sky, beautiful flora, and plenty of places to lay out a blanket for an after-hike picnic.

Lake Lynn Trail
This trail is mostly paved with some boardwalks and has little elevation change. Look out for aquatic life like ducks, geese, herons, and turtles.

New Hope Overlook Blue Route
This loop features different views of Jordan Lake, including a short detour to the edge of the lake (it’s marked). Keep in mind that there are several steep hills.

Sycamore Trail
This trail features the iconic Chainsaw Log made into an impressive piece of natural art from a fallen red oak. Plus, a fall visit to this trail ensures stunning natural colors.

The Wrap

From Allie

This week, my friends and I had a girls night + catch up at St. Pierre, a new wine bar in Raleigh Iron Works. We loved the space, wine list, and service and topped off the night with owner Anthony Guerra’s other biz, Oakwood Pizza Box and its new space in the former Capital Creations.
