Bitter Social
After 10 years on Wilmington Street, Gallo Pelon will shut its doors after its last service on Monday, May 5. The second floor will be taken over by Bittersweet for a new concept called Bitter Social.
Mr. Henry
Between Goodnights Comedy Club and winestore, Mr. Henry has a ritzy selection of classic cocktails, new concoctions, wine, and beer. Plus, the classy interior would make a great spot for a shopping break, drinks after dinner, or an upscale night out.

Raleigh City Council has approved a 30-story rezoning request on Peace Street near Publix. The zoning will allow for up to 938 residential units, 500,000 sqft of office space, and 66,210 sqft of retail. Many Glenwood-Brooklyn residents oppose the development due to height and noise concerns. (The News & Observer)

The Canes open their season tonight, and Lenovo Center has some new food offerings for Caniacs. Greenville college bar Sup Dogs is bringing its hot dogs + branded vodka drinks to sections 103 and 118, and Willy’s Hot Chicken — made in collaboration with Canes legend Justin Williams — will serve up Texas Pete-spiced chicken.
Award
Six athletes + coaches were awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine this week, the highest citizen honor in NC. Honorees include: Jordan Staal, Canes team captain; Torry Holt, NC State wide receiver; and Elliott Avent, NC State baseball’s winningest coach of all time. See the full list.
$737 million. That’s how much the final 10 miles of 540 will cost. The last segment will connect Knightdale and Garner and will complete the 70 mile loop by 2028. Construction on 540 began more than 35 years ago near RDU, and the road will be paid for via tolls. (The News & Observer)
