The 2025 hurricane season is here, and we want to help you get prepared. The Atlantic hurricane season started June 1 and runs through November — forecasters predict this season will be a busy one.
This guide will refresh you on preparing for a storm and provide some resources to stay weather-aware in Raleigh.
Predictions
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts 13 to 19 named storms this summer + fall.
Category breakdown
Category One: Winds 74 to 95 miles per hour.
Category Two: Winds 96 to 110 miles per hour.
Category Three: Winds 111 to 129 miles per hour.
Category Four: Winds 130 to 156 miles per hour.
Category Five: Winds 157 miles per hour.
Watch vs. warning
When a storm is expected, the National Hurricane Center will issue advisories until the storm makes landfall.
Watch: Tropical storm or hurricane conditions pose a possible threat within the next 48 hours.
Warning: Tropical storm or hurricane conditions are expected within the next 36 hours.

Tifa Chocolate & Gelato is opening its first Raleigh location this summer in North Hills at Captrust Tower, near Rosewater Kitchen & Bar. Expect artisan chocolate and gelato flavors like lemon cookie + strawberry balsamic. (The News & Observer)
Closed
Las Ramblas, a tapas bar in North Hills, announced its permanent closure on Sunday due to an HVAC failure. Guests can continue to support its sister restaurant, Rosewater, located across from Kings Dining & Entertainment and just a few steps away from the forthcoming Tifa Chocolate & Gelato.
Development
The City of Raleigh is updating Fayetteville Street through a year-long streetscape plan through Feb. 28, 2026. With a $500,000 budget, the project aims to set standards for lighting, landscaping, art, and more. Stop by the open house event on June 16 to share feedback + learn more about the project.
Traffic
From Monday, June 9, to July 3, two travel lanes, one bike lane, and parking will be closed on the 100 block of East Morgan Street between South Wilmington and South Blount streets for infrastructure work. One eastbound lane will remain open, but expect traffic delays with no service interruptions planned.
Arts
All 88 trees along Fayetteville Street will now be lit with trunk and limb lights as part of the “North Carolina’s Main Street Lights” project. The Downtown Raleigh Alliance and the City of Raleigh initiative aim to boost downtown vibrancy and business.
Outdoors
Hundreds of cyclists gathered at Lake Crabtree County Park on Saturday for a final group ride before Wake County closed the mountain biking trails. The closure comes as the county’s lease with RDU Airport ends on Monday, June 30. (The News & Observer)

Welcome to “Love Island USA” — now entering, Huda. Raleigh local Huda Mustafa was selected as a cast member for season seven of Peacock’s competition dating show “Love Island USA”, and we’ll be able to see Mustafa in action starting tonight, June 3 at 9 p.m.
Beyond the island, Mustafa, 24, is an online fitness coach located in Oak City. She’s also an influencer, specializing in gym + lifestyle content. City Editor Danyale here. Mustafa’s muscle definition has me ready to lock in at one of Raleigh’s many gyms.
