Transferring can do more than help kids get ahead academically: It can also save adults a lot of mileage.
For example, families living in Western Wake with rising middle school students have great magnet school options nearby. A quality magnet middle school is just around the corner.
Both the East Cary Magnet Middle and Dillard Drive Magnet Middle are part of Wake County’s award-winning magnet schools, which consistently rank among the best in the US.
With an emphasis on academic excellence, and the opportunity to earn high school language credits, students in these programs grow as global scholars while preparing for the world outside the classroom.
Plus, these middle schools feed into the top-rated magnet school in the country, the Athens Drive Center for Medical Sciences and Global Health Initiatives Magnet High School.

Forsyth County, home of Winston-Salem, is measuring a tree pollen count of 1,733, and Raleigh’s highest in February was 1,186 in 2017. (WRAL)

Downtown looks especially beautiful during a concert at Red Hat Amphitheater. | Photo by RALtoday
Red Hat Amphitheater’s 2024 season broke records with $33.7 million generated in total economic impact while facing a potential closure. In 2023, the amphitheater generated $17.6 million.
Last year, Red Hat hosted 50 concerts with 280,687 attendees, and headliners like Chappell Roan and Lainey Wilson sold out the venue. Plus, CAROLINADAZE and Music for the Mountains debuted at Red Hat, further contributing to the venue’s success.
The community came together in fall 2024 to support the amphitheater as concerns grew about the venue’s upcoming permanent location that would close a portion of South Street. On Sept. 17, Raleigh City Council voted to keep Red Hat downtown, and the venue will move to a permanent space on West Lenoir Street before the 2026 season. The convention center will construct an additional space on Red Hat’s current footprint.
Upcoming concerts for the 2025 season include The Black Keys, Beabadoobee, Sierra Farrell, and Rilo Kiley.
