The future of medical aesthetics is underway, and it’s happening right here in Raleigh.
That’s right, Merz Aesthetics — the world’s largest dedicated medical aesthetics business — recently unveiled its state-of-the-art Research & Development Innovation Center, North America (RDIC, North America) at its North Raleigh global headquarters.
So what’s going to be happening inside those futuristic walls?
Developing better products
The RDIC, North America will act as a hub for pioneering medical aesthetics research.
Specifically, this new facility houses an Energy-Based Device (EBD) lab dedicated to the development of Ultherapy® — the Gold Standard for nonsurgical lifting.2
Merz Aesthetics announced it will use the new lab in tandem with its existing Frankfurt R&D Innovation Center to continue developing cutting-edge technologies that push the boundaries of the medical aesthetics industry as a whole.
Launching something new
The new EBD lab isn’t the only recent innovation for the RAL-based biz.
The global brand also recently announced the release of Ultherapy PRIME®, the latest evolution of its Ultherapy technology.
Ultherapy PRIME redefines the future of nonsurgical skin lifting by uniquely combining advanced ultrasound technology and vivid real-time imaging.1,2,3,4,5,6
With Ultherapy PRIME, each patient’s treatment is customized to their unique needs, allowing for a truly personalized, long-lasting, noninvasive lift while promoting healthier, younger looking skin.1,2,3,4,5,6
The ULTHERA® System is indicated to lift the skin on the neck, on the eyebrow and under the chin as well as to improve lines and wrinkles on the décolleté. Reported adverse events from post marketing surveillance are available in the Instructions for Use (IFU). Please see the IFU for product and safety information, and possible side effects at Ultherapy.com/IFU
Beyond developing cutting-edge products, Merz Aesthetics has long been an active participant in the Raleigh community. From partnering with the NC Courage to collaborating with Dress for Success Triangle, the biz works to empower women locally and around the world.

Earth, Wind & Fire never performed at Dorton Arena, but The Jackson 5, Dolly Parton, and the Beach Boys all performed at the saddle-shaped arena at the fairgrounds. In a recent quiz, only 9% of respondents got this one right.
Although most concerts didn’t happen during the NC State Fair, Dorton Arena hosted legendary music acts throughout the ‘60s and ‘70s. Is it time to bring live music back to the arena?
Fun fact: Chapel Hill photographer Avery Danziger has captured moments at the fair since the ‘70s, and his photos provide an inside look as to how the fair has changed. Read our conversation with Danziger from 2022 and take a peek at some of his iconic state fair photography over the years.

Did you know? In 2020, 65% of NC voters cast their ballot during the early voting period, which starts today. This morning, I’m headed to the polls with my required photo ID and well-researched sample ballot — check to see which early voting location is most convenient for you. I’m equal distance from Talley Student Union and John Chavis Memorial Park, and I can’t miss a chance to visit my alma mater.
