The Canes raised over $279,000 for Hurricane Helene relief during its sold-out preseason game against the Nashville Predators. All ticket revenue, along with donations from concessions and a silent auction, will support affected communities in WNC. Outdoors
Wake County’s nature preserves — Robertson Millpond, Sandy Pines, and Turnipseed — are now open daily, providing year-round access. Previously open seasonally, they now align with the county’s parks, operating 361 days a year. This change aims to foster greater community engagement with nature.

911, what’s your emergency? The Raleigh-Wake Emergency Communications Center is hiring call takers and telecommunicators. Duties for both positions include answering incoming emergency, non-emergency, and administrative calls.
Annual salaries for call takers start at $42,027 and telecommunicators begin at $45,245.
The duration of the training is 12 to 14 weeks and will begin on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.
Additional details
Applicants must have a high school diploma, GED, or one year of related experience.
Trainees will receive a salary while in the training academy.
Virtual information sessions will occur on Saturday, Oct. 12, Monday, Oct. 14, and Wednesday, Oct. 16.
