We’re on record saying that Raleigh is our favorite city, but these world records and other superlatives prove that Raleigh might be the best, as far as beer taps, racquet sports, and more are concerned. Here are five of Raleigh’s world records + feats that prove it.
Most different varieties of beer on tap, Raleigh Beer Garden | When this huge beer garden set its record, it had 369 taps flowing local + national brews alike. The beer garden also holds the record for the largest tap takeover. In October 2019, 177 taps at the beer garden were pouring Wicked Weed Brewing bevs, including over 100 sours.
World’s largest racquet sports complex, Swing Racquet and Paddle | This state-of-the-art facility recently broke groundand is already breaking records. When the complex opens in 2026, expect 44 acres of fun and 70 courts for five different racquet and paddle sports, all near Brier Creek.
Benelux Coffee’s coffee bean mural | This mural has been recognized by Guinness and is one of the largest in the world at 45 feet long and nearly 8 feet tall. Munch on Belgian waffles and fresh-brewed joe on this monumental mural.
NC Museum of Natural Science’s Daily Planet globe | The world revolves around Raleigh... sort of. This globe is one of the biggest in the world, and although it doesn’t rotate nor revolve, it’s still an impressive sight. Inside is a three-level theater with a 40-foot screen.

NC Museum of History to undergo major redesign

A historic renovation is coming to the NC Museum of History. The museum anticipates the renovation taking two to three years, and it will close Monday, Oct. 7 while the gift shop will remain open until Dec. 29.
After 30 years on East Edenton Street, the museum said it’s time for a “grand revitalization.” The makeover will transform the museum, giving an in-depth look into NC’s history.
“We’re embarking on an incredible journey, and what awaits us on the other side is nothing short of extraordinary — reimagined exhibits that will bring North Carolina history to life,” Brad Wilson, interim director of the NC Museum of History and Division of State History Museums, said in a press release.
During its closure, the museum will provide digital resources to keep the history of NC accessible. Fun fact: The museum has ties to the Smithsonian and was established in 1902, and the current museum was built in 1994.
I’m finally jumping into David Sedaris’s bibliography with “Me Talk Pretty One Day.” I already knew I enjoyed Sedaris’s dry humor, but all the local connections in his young adulthood were a welcomed surprise. My favorite tidbit is his love for the iconic A-frame IHOP, which is now Alpaca Peruvian Chicken. Read up on more local authors.
