You decided how City Editor Cat should spend her day in Raleigh — it led to a walk at the NCMA park. | Photo by RALtoday
City Editor Cat here. I asked you to choose your own adventure and design my day as a RALtoday City Editor. With great power comes great responsibility — here is how you called the shots, as a collective audience.
Wake up and smell the… bagels
I’m a bit of a plain Jane when it comes to bagels — I popped into Transfer Co. Food Hall to snag a sesame bagel with plain cream cheese from Benchwarmers Bagels. This spot also has a ton of flavorful sandwiches + spreads to choose from, like pecan butterscotch and spiced honey... and don’t sleep on the pizza night menu.
I enjoyed my freshly baked bagel on the patio for a glorious start to my busy morning.
Head to work at... a local library branch
Two of my favorite libraries to work out of are Oberlin Regional Library and Leesville Community Library (tree house vibes). Since I grabbed a bagel downtown, I decided to hunker down at Oberlin for a few hours. The library had an elaborate display in the lobby for the Village District’s 75th anniversary.
Bonus: We recently shared how to navigate Wake County Public Libraries’ free resources.
Grab dinnerlunch at... Taverna Agora
Opa! I decided to switch this one up since I love Taverna Agora’s lunch menu so much. I invited Allie as my plus one, of course. We ate al fresco on the picturesque rooftop patio — the souvlaki skewer platter is my go-to. Plus, this Greek kitchen + bar celebrated 20 years in biz this year.
Unwind after work by... going on a walk with my pup Tucker at a park
Tucker’s favorite park to explore (he told me) is Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park at the NCMA. In the middle of our walk, we rested on the pond platform to bird-watch together — this is a regular occurrence for us.
Enjoy evening entertainment by... grabbing ice cream
Finally, the busy day was sealed with a sweet treat from FRESH. Local Ice Cream. I ordered a cookies and cream cone, my fiance opted for white mint chip, and Tucker was rewarded with a farm fresh doggie sundae.
Thanks for helping me plan an amazing day in Raleigh.

Last week, I had the chance to dine at Figulina in the flipped Humble Pie space. I loved being able to see pasta being made in the kitchen, the ambiance was warm + inviting, and the tagliatelle bolognese was delicious. My friend Anna bragged about the risotto, so that’s next on my list.
