🏗️ Moore Square is goin’ through changes
New plans for the Moore Square historic district have been approved

Last week, Raleigh City Council approved expanded mixed-use plans for the Moore Square development with a goal to draw more people downtown.
With focus on the east and south ends of Moore Square, Loden Hospitality plans to bring street-level retail, restaurants, housing options, coworking space from Raleigh Founded, and two swanky hotels to the historic property.
The plan includes an apartment complex fitted with up to 590 units, where around 400 of the units will be rented at market rate and the rest to be held for affordable housing.
Developers will construct a new 30,000 sqft Raleigh Rescue Mission building, and two hotels, including a boutique stay with up to 160 rooms.
Plans also call for a 22,000 sqft grocery store — the third in downtown — with retail parking, room for retail + restaurants, and developers intend to incorporate space on Blake Street as storefront + studio space for Artspace.
Local restaurateurs Cheetie Kumar and Paul Siler are expected to add their own flair to the district with an eatery and karaoke concept as well.
By spring of next year, these plans are anticipated to be refined for the east and south redevelopment projects.
Last weekend’s weather was so perfect. I grabbed coffee from Lucky Tree + strolled through the NCMA park on Saturday, then I played golf (read: caddied) at Pine Hollow Golf Club on Sunday. Here’s to hoping that false fall is behind us and cooler days are here to stay.
