Wondering what a mating dance-off with a peacock spider is like? Or how spiders communicate and weave their webs?

Find out during the September Spiders celebration at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.

All month long, the museum is celebrating the fascinating world of arthropods with a wildly interactive and educational spider exhibition, along with the return of BugFest — the museum’s biggest, buggiest event of the year. (Psst... in case you didn’t guess, this year’s spotlight is spiders).

You won’t want to miss these web-tastic, family-friendly events:
  • “Spiders: Fear to Fascination” | Open now through Sunday, Oct. 8 | Meet 250+ live and preserved spiders from around the world, hold virtual spiders, test your fang agility, create your own animated arachnid, and more.
  • BugFest | Saturday, Sept. 16 | Meet more web-slinging friends while exploring 100+ exhibitions, crafts, games, and activities with entomologists and other scientists.
Pro tip: BugFest is free for everyone + Museum Members have free and unlimited admission to the special exhibition.

Now Serving, a nonprofit group distributing healthy meals from restaurants, caterers, and commercial kitchens to the local community, will host Now Serving Food + Wine on Oct. 21 in Smoky Hollow. Proceeds from this event will help fund more community meals.

The event will celebrate the nonprofits work in the Triangle culinary scene, including its 72,000 donated meals since its inception in February 2022.

Vendors at the event will include Smoky Hollow residents Madre and Midwood Smokehouse as well as Cheeni Indian Food Emporium, Hummingbird, Stanbury, Mandolin, St. Roch, and plenty more hot Raleigh restaurants.

This event is free to attend, but a $75 ticket will get participants a sample from each of the 12 food stalls as well as wine, spirits, and beer. In addition to delicious bites, attendees will enjoy local music and cooking demonstrations.
