GalaxyCon Raleigh attracts tens of thousands of fans from all over every year. | Photo by @RaleighPhotos
GalaxyCon, an out-of-this-world festival of fandom, will be at the Raleigh Convention Center from Thursday, July 27 through Sunday, July 30. Fans can celebrate pop culture, comics, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, and more. The 2023 convention marks its fifth time in Raleigh. Whatever your flavor of fandom, GalaxyCon has events, celebrity experiences, and meet ups for almost every fan.
Celebrities
As an additional charge to your entry, meet a variety of pop culture and genre stars including Christopher Lloyd from “Back to the Future,” Ming-Na Wen, the voice of “Mulan,” and the cast of “Star Trek” and “Boy Meets World,” among many others.
If SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ labor union, is still on strike during the event, actors will be limited on what they can speak to fans about, specifically ongoing projects under a SAG contract. According to GalaxyCon, all celebrity guests will appear as advertised and can discuss their hobbies, interests, and personal lives with fans.
Events
In addition to meeting your favorite celebrities, con-goers can attend special panels and Q+A sessions with actors, creators, and artists, including Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario, and Billy Dee Williams from “Star Wars.”
Show off your elaborate outfit with costume and cosplay contests for the chance to win cash prizes. Also attend after dark events including drag and burlesque shows, dance parties, and a “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” screening with a cast shadowing the film. Check out the con’s jam-packed schedule for even more events.
Shopping
Enjoy the events the con has to offer, and take home a couple trinkets, too. GalaxyCon will be home to hundreds of exhibitors next weekend, ranging from fashion and art to Dungeons & Dragons collectibles.

Did you mosquit-know? The number of “mosquito days,” warm and humid days the insects love, has grown over the past several decades in Raleigh. Because Raleigh has seen nearly 4.5 inches of rain, in the last 30 days, .29 inches more than normal, water-breeding mosquitoes may have a field day. (Axios Raleigh)

Although it’s a bit of a drive from Raleigh, I am loving this story about Treat Yo’ Self bakery in Wilson owned by husbands Greg and Alex Mason. Their store and goodies look so cute that I might just have to make the drive.
