We did a Reddit deep dive to answer a few local questions from our community. Let’s get to the good stuff.

“Anyone know any good places to shoot some hoops?”

The city has 20+ outdoor concrete courts to make all of your swishes come true. Bonus: Take advantage of Raleigh’s Open Play Pass to gain access to more than 18 indoor sport facilities.

“I’m looking for a good antique mall.”

The Raleigh Market, Antiques at Gresham Lake, and Pigfish Lane Antiques & Interiors are great spots to score some vintage treasures.

Before our NC State intern Abigail headed back to the Pack, she curated a list of her favorite spots on campus.

“I’m looking for gluten-free birthday cake.”

Try Freshly Baked by Meg, a gluten-free bakery, or The Cupcake Shoppe, which offers vegan and gluten-free options upon request.

“What are the best kid-friendly dining options?”

Fun 4 Raleigh Kids curated a long list of kid-friendly restaurants including BB’s Crispy Chicken, Bowstring Pizza and Brewyard, and Transfer Co. Food Hall.

“Is there a service in the Triangle that helps wounded wildlife?”

NC Wildlife is a great resource for next steps after finding an injured animal. They can help you locate nearby wildlife rehabilitation centers.

“Does anyone know where I can get some fried gizzards?”

Word on Reddit is that the Stop & Quick at 1321 S. Blount St. has some tasty gizzards.

“I’m looking for a day pass for hotel swimming pools.”

  • TheMixx, formerly BottleMixx, is now open in Duraleigh Corners (Northwest Raleigh). The bottle shop and bar celebrated its grand opening on Friday, April 14. The new, larger space features a vast selection of wine and beer, a bar, and tasting room.
Development
  • New site plans were submitted for a Renaissance Hotel to be part of the Hub RTP development. The luxury 17-story hotel would bring 254 rooms to the Triangle. Plans for The Renaissance RTP feature a pool, club lounge, restaurant, outdoor dining space, and a parking deck with ~250 spaces. (Triangle Business Journal)

  • Take warning. The Carolina Hurricanes will face the New York Islanders in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs today, April 17 at PNC Arena. This is the Canes’ fifth straight season making it to the playoffs. Let’s go Canes.
