Raleigh is known as a booming hub for business. It also recently ranked No. 2 on U.S. News’ list of Best Places to Live in the U.S. in 2021-2022. (We’re biased, but it *is* a great place to live + work.) And that’s part of the reason why Merz Aesthetics, the world’s largest dedicated medical aesthetics business, planted its roots in the City of Oaks.

Here are the other reasons why this global company chose Raleigh for its home base:

Historical ties

The original Merz was founded in 1908 in Frankfurt, Germany by 24-year-old chemist Friedrich Merz — and it’s still owned today by the 4th generation of the Merz family. Operating in North Carolina since 1975, the original company relocated to Raleigh in 2014 to benefit from the thriving business community + the area’s talent pool. In 2020, Merz Aesthetics became its own independently operating business from Merz Group and chose to name Raleigh as its new global headquarters.

Today, Merz Aesthetics is 245+ employees strong (and growing) at its North Raleigh campus (6501 Six Forks Rd.) with a commercial presence that extends to 36 countries worldwide.

Making a difference

Merz Aesthetics regularly partners with local organizations, including the American Heart Association/Go Red for Women and Dress for Success Triangle, which are directly making a difference in the community by inspiring and empowering confidence.

Whether it’s providing funds, donating PPE, organizing clothing drives, planting gardens at the Raleigh Girls Club or granting paid time off for employee volunteerism, Merz Aesthetics believes it’s their mission to give back to the place they live + work. Fun fact: In 2019 (before the pandemic kept everyone at home), employees donated 1,500+ hours of volunteering time.

Continuing to build community ties

As the world begins to reopen, Merz Aesthetics is already working again to benefit the community. They are sponsoring the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce monthly Professional Women’s Luncheon series + their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity conference. They are supporting the CBS 17 annual ‘Remarkable Women” program celebrating Triangle women making an impact.

They are also the official corporate sponsor of “Exquisite Creatures by artist Christopher Marley” — a must-see special exhibition (the first in three years) at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
