Hey, Raleigh – Rachel here. Since quarantine started I’ve been stepping up my cooking game, but some nights I just don’t feel like cooking. Thank goodness for delivery.

Many local restaurants have pivoted to delivery and contactless curbside pickup service to ensure the safety of customers. Fig’s Market is relaunching this month as one of these hybrid establishments – delivering hassle-free meals straight to your door.

Last week, I got a sneak peek (er, taste) of the brand new Fig’s Market Heat & Eat Entrees and what to expect when ordering online from them – which definitely alleviated some kitchen stress. Here’s what I ordered + how you can #TryThis.

Experience:

Ordering a Heat & Eat delivery meal from Fig’s Market

What we tried (with pricing):

Online ordering allows diners to select from 9 menu categories including Fignature entrees, like Salmon Glazed with Raspberry Tamarind and Sweet Potato Salsa, monthly seasonal features + Featured Specialties – like Chianti Braised Short Ribs and Nashville Hot Chicken. Other menu options include salads, veggies + dessert (more on that later).

The meals come in servings for 1-, 2- or 4-servings so you can order for a large party (like your upcoming Labor Day cookout), a nice meal for empty nesters who just dropped their child off at college or just for one if you don’t feel like cooking for yourself after a long day of WFH. Prices vary ($13-99) for each menu item depending on serving size. Beer and wine are also available to order online.

Once your shopping cart is full, you can choose between pickup or delivery from Fig’s, right to your door. There’s a $40 order minimum for delivery, but no minimum for pickup orders.

Fig’s will deliver for a fee ($15-40) within a 40-mile radius of the Catering Works Headquarters (2319 Laurelbrook Street) in Raleigh – which means even if you live in Durham, like me, you can still enjoy a Fig’s meal. Pro-tip: Make sure to plan ahead. Fig’s needs a 48-hour notice for each order.

Here’s what I ordered:

  • Peruvian Chicken meal (4-pack), $54 – includes rice with poblanos, spinach + feta; house salad; cornbread + cookies
  • Spanakopita & Greek Salad (4-pack), $34 – includes Spanakopita + Greek salad

Unlike other delivery meals, there is little work to do once the meal arrives at your door. The meals come already cooked with minimal prep needed, so you don’t have to put on your Top Chef hat to create a delicious meal.

For menu items that need to be reheated, the warmup instructions come on a handy card with the meal.

The card gives diners step-by-step instructions for reheating

I followed the warmup instructions for the Peruvian Chicken using my oven, but some items, like the rice with poblanos, spinach + feta, can be reheated in the microwave right in the container it came in.

The chicken came already topped with sauce and ready to go in the oven

I reheated the rice and built a salad while the chicken reheated. So in less than 30 minutes dinner was ready.

Containers are microwave-friendly, so you won’t have to dirty another dish while reheating

Don’t miss:

The sweet stuff. A meal isn’t complete without dessert, right? Fig’s Market’s dessert offerings include artisanal popcorn, cookies, cupcakes + brownies.

What we’re still talking about:

How easy the process is from bag to table. In less than a half hour, we had a full meal.
