March Madness 2025: Where Triangle men’s and women’s basketball squads stand

Is your bracket busted yet? Here’s where our Triangle men’s and women’s basketball teams stand as our local squads look toward the Sweet 16.

Duke

Men’s: No. 1 seed Duke trounced No. 16 seed Mount St. Mary’s on Friday, 93-49 at the Lenovo Center, and moved on to crush No. 9 seed Baylor 89-66. The Blue Devils are dancing on to the Sweet 16 and will play again on Thursday, March 27 or Friday, March 28.

Women’s: The No. 2 seed Blue Devils bested No. 15 seed Lehigh 86-25 and No. 10 seed Oregon 59-53 and could face Chapel Hill in the Sweet 16.

NC State

Women’s: The No. 2 seed Wolfpack overcame No. 15 seed Vermont 75-55 and will play the No. 7 seed Michigan State Spartans today at 12 p.m. at Reynolds.

UNC

Men’s: After defeating San Diego State in the First Four, No. 11 seed UNC faced No. 6 seed Ole Miss for the first time in nearly 100 years and fell 71-64 to the Rebels.

Women’s: In Chapel Hill, the No. 3 seed Tar Heels beat No. 14 seed Oregon State 70-49 and will face No. 6 seed West Virginia tonight at 7 p.m. If they win, the Heels will face Duke.
