The pandemic altered a lot of areas of life, but it didn’t stop local non-profit Second Chance Pet Adoptions from hosting their annual Racing for Rescues 5Kjust virtually. Or, as Second Chance says, FUR-tually.

This year’s race will be held from Apr. 30-May 9 + registered participants can participate from anywhere at any time. Plus, they get a free t-shirt.

Each year, the race raises funds for the work that Second Chance does rescuing stray and abandoned cats + dogs in the community and giving them medical attention and care before finding them permanent homes. Last year’s virtual event brought in a record fundraising total of $50,151.

From Mar. 2020-Mar. 2021, the organization was able to rescue 709 cats + dogs and adopt out 697 animals.

In addition to the race, Second Chance is hosting a raffle with the chance to win $750 in gift cards on May 9. Fundraisers can also win other prizes based on how much they are able to raise.

Participants also have the option to submit their race time to the leaderboard to compare with others. Happy racing.
