Wade withdraws from Wolfpack

NC State men’s basketball head coach Will Wade is leaving the program after one season to return to LSU, where he coached from 2017 to 2022, according to sources. Wade’s first season ended with a 20-14 record and a loss in the First Four.

Wade was hired a year ago to replace former head coach Kevin Keatts on a six-year, $17 million contract. After NC State’s loss to Texas in the First Four of the NCAA tournament, Wade called the team “the worst team we have at NC State” and “we’ll be much better moving forward.”

In a statement posted on social media, Wade wrote “This was not an easy decision, because of how much respect and appreciation I have for this program and this university. But the opportunity to return to Louisiana State University is deeply personal. It’s a chance to go home — to a place that means a great deal to me and my family.”
