News Notes

Biz

Cary-based Epic Games announced it will lay off 1,000 employees, citing waning interest in video game Fornite. The game developer didn’t specify how many North Carolinians would lose their jobs. (The News & Observer)
Pollen is here. Look through local photos of the great pollening — you might want to take a Zyrtec first. (WRAL)

Sports

Duke will face No. 5 St. John’s for a spot in the Elite Eight on Friday, and its reminding some locals of the last time they met — in the Sweet 16, 35 years ago. And last time, the Blue Devils went on to win the championship. (The News & Observer)

Coming Soon

Sports retailer Rally House will open its third Triangle location in Cary, joining stores in Chapel Hill and Durham. The new store will be in the former Home Centric space in Crossroads, and we’re hoping for plenty of Wolfpack gear when it opens — we’ll let you know when. (The News & Observer)

Open

Um, wow: The Triangle’s brand-new, 92,000-square-foot Life Time is here. The state-of-the-art facility has just about everything — boutique fitness studios for Pilates, pickleball, personal training, and even a resort-style pool area. Take a peek inside.*

Eat

Amedeo’s on Western Boulevard is facing possible redevelopment, but if the NC State icon moves, it’ll be in good company. Local icons like Fiction Kitchen, Sunflowers Cafe, and more have all moved to new spaces — read the whole list. (The News & Observer)

The Wrap

Last weekend, my friend and I treated ourselves to dinner at Hummingbird, and we loved every bite. My favorite item was the charbroiled oysters and the lobster roll — the best I’ve had since visiting Maine. I’ve heard I have to try Hummingbird brunch next.
