No. 8. That’s where the Raleigh metro lands on the latest U-Haul Growth Index, which captures US migration trends via one-way customer moves in 2025. NC ranked No. 3 for in-migration with 50.7% of moves into the state and 49.3% out.
Raleigh + its competition were ranked by net gain or loss of U-Haul customers via U-Haul equipment like rented trucks and trailers. Garner came in at No. 22 for individual growth cities, and the Charlotte metro came in at No. 4 overall.
Plus, the competition is tough — No. 1 Texas also had 50.7% in-migration but ranked higher for its growth metros, which make up the entire top three rankings.

Wake County Register of Deeds has donated the C.L. Mann map collection — over 2,000 maps of the City of Raleigh + Wake County from the 1890s through the 1960s — to NC State to create a more complete record of Mann’s work.
