Even if your child won’t start elementary school until 2026-27, the fair is a great opportunity to learn about Magnet Pathways: themed programs that span multiple grade levels.

Stop by to hear from elementary school teachers and families about their experiences teaching and learning in a magnet school, and to learn about the enrollment process in WCPSS.

🧲 Why magnet schools?

Quick answer: They’re high-quality education opportunities that will push and engage your child academically.

Magnet schools give your child more opportunities to think critically and analytically, access new and diverse experiences, and help them grow into a successful adult.

There’s a new way to explore Wake County, and it all starts on your phone. Visit Raleigh has partnered with Wander to create a map full of can’t-miss points across the county, including 300 miles of greenways + trails.

To get started, download the Wander app and allow the app to see your location — you’ll get better recommendations closer to you. Then, just start exploring. Allie here — I had fun taking a look at restaurants outside the Beltline and discovering new trails with bright foliage.

Plus, the map includes so much more than just Raleigh. You can explore the entire county, from Apex to Zebulon, and plan a few day trips in a new town.

Sports

In a recent poll of NHL players, 24% listed the Lenovo Center as their least favorite place in the league to play. Whether it’s due to infamously cramped locker rooms or the electric atmosphere, there’s something special in Raleigh. Check if the Canes maintained their win streak against Vegas yesterday. Try This

Tomorrow, former Raleigh Times paper carriers will head back to their old stomping grounds — now a restaurant by the same name — to talk about the now-defunct paper and their delivery routes. Plus, the conversation will be moderated by Katherine Snow, the daughter of The Raleigh Times’ final editor, A.C. Snow.
This weekend, a ride at the NC State Fair stalled, leaving riders in the air for approx. 45 minutes. No riders were hurt, and the ride company offered free rides to those stuck. Thanks, but no thanks. (Raleigh Downtown)

Civic

Raleigh is working on a revised Comprehensive Plan which details the city’s goals for the next 20 years. “It’s a rare opportunity to plan for the next generation of people who will live in Raleigh,” Sarah Shaughnessy, a principal planner with Raleigh’s Planning and Development Department + Raleigh native, told WRAL.

Community

October is LGBTQ+ History Month, and ABC 11 took a visit to one of Raleigh’s oldest standing LGBTQ+ spaces, Legends Nightclub, which has been in Oak City since the ‘90s. Read more about how this space has been home for hundreds of LGBTQ+ Raleighites.

Ranked

RDU’s Whisky River has been named among the best airport bars in the country. Coming in at No. 10, the restaurant, owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., is known for its moonshine drinks. We’ve found a few more local faves for you to try before your next flight. (The News & Observer)
