Do you remember the Bed Bath Beyond on Glenwood Avenue? What about Orvis on Sumner Boulevard? Those retail spaces have something in common — they’re getting dressed up as Spirit Halloween stores.

The seasonal chain has converted nine vacant retail spaces in the Raleigh metro area into its stores. This includes five in Oak City, two in Durham, and more.

Spirits’ lore

Let’s pull the mask off and learn more. Spirit Halloween finds temporary leases and moves into retail spaces that would otherwise be vacant. This is why there are so many — to the point it’s become a meme — and they might be in different locations next year.

Local shops

Prefer to shop local? There are many stores with a scary selection of new and pre-owned clothing that can help you create a Halloween costume. Try on:

News Notes

Fun Fact

The world’s oldest hotel has been welcoming guests since 705 A.D. under the ownership of the same family for 52 generations — Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan in Japan. Over 1,000 years later, former Hotel Sir Walter opened, becoming Raleigh’s oldest hotel.

Biz

To ketchup on recent news, Kraft Heinz announced it will be splitting into two companies — 10 years after merging. While we don’t know what the future holds for these food brands, we know we can rely on these locally made products in Oak City. (AP News)

57. That’s how many days are left until daylight saving time ends and the clock falls back one hour. Translation: It’s time to take advantage of golden-hour hangs after work while you still can. Might we suggest a sunset stroll through these parks?

Eat

What is your favorite comfort food? For North Carolinians, pulled pork sandwiches are at the top of the list, according to Reader’s Digest. We recommend sampling some for yourself at Ole Time Barbecue for research purposes.
