The Great Raleigh Cleanup is turning 5, and everyone’s invited to the party. Help keep Raleigh tidy on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Coastal Credit Union Music Park’s exclusive Backyard for an amphitheater cleanup and a birthday bash with good music, food, and bevs.
This event is pay-what-you-want to continue TGRC’s mission. Even if you can’t make it, consider donating to keep TGRC’s programs strong, like litter diversion at concerts, community cleanups, and The Workforce, which has provided over $50,000 in living wages to people experiencing homelessness.
“It’s a place where you’ll meet somebody who you’ll connect with,” Preston Ross III, founder and executive director, told RALtoday. “There are so many people from so many different walks of life, so many interests.” We’ll see you at the Backyard Birthday Bash.

Sports
Take a look at NC State’s new football uniforms with some awesome Raleigh nods. In addition to “City of Oaks” on the back of player’s helmets, there’s a tiny acorn next to NC State on the jersey. Plus, the hype video has me proud of Raleigh + more excited than ever for football season.
Mansion Monday
This home’s sprawling backyard caught our eye, and its grand floating staircase just sweetens the deal. With 7 beds and 8 baths, this home is perfect for year-round entertaining and complete with a gaming area, salon, and a home theater all in the basement. Is the price tag worth it?
Weather
Phew, mugginess is on the rise across parts of the US. In Raleigh, 91% of the days in June + July were considered muggy due to their high humidity. If you’re looking for ways to cool off, we recommend taking a dip at a local swimming spot.
Drink
Save the date, pumpkin spice latte people — the beloved beverage will return to Starbucks on Tuesday, Aug. 26. Need something to sip in the meantime? Try a seasonal drink at one of Oak City’s local coffee shops.
Number
12,027. That’s roughly how many feet the world’s longest suspension bridge will be once completed. The project recently received final approval in Italy and will connect the boot-shaped mainland with the island of Sicily. Comparing that to Boylan Bridge’s 150 ft helps put it in perspective. (BBC)

While working on this event with Preston and Volunteer Programs Manager Kaley, we got talking about how to make our lives more sustainable, and we all agreed — using what you have is better than something new.
